Paul Houseman
Self-taught composer Paul Houseman was born 26th August 1985, and spent his childhood living in the beautiful city of Helsinki, Finland. Like every kid, Paul wanted to be many things when he grew up: A film director, an actor and a writer. His interest in composing music, however, became apparent in the age of 12, when he got his first midi sequencer and started to play around with it
using an ordinary (non-midi) keyboard.
"At the time I was heavily inspired by the midi-based gaming music by Nobuo Uematsu (I still am), and wanted to sound exactly like him. That was what kept me interested in having that general midi -setup in my "studio". I created tons and tons of horrible amateur scores which I thought were very interesting at the time. Listening to them today is still entertaining, but in a different way!"
Paul's love for gaming music eventually lead to exploring other similar genres, and he soon discovered the music of composers such as John Williams, Hans Zimmer and Jerry Goldsmith. The enthusiasm and inspiration he got from the music of these composers changed the entire way he saw the future of his music. Soon he started to teach himself how to orchestrate and compose in various styles.
"There is something very special in film music and genres similiar to it... Maybe it is the fact that this music is especially created to bring up certain emotions. This is what fascinates me. Its a young and a complicated art which you can never master completely."
Soon after expanding his interest in classical music as well,
Paul started working with a number of colleagues to create customized orchestral sample libraries, which are dedicated towards realizing the musical ideas of a film composer with improved precision and power. Combining this powerful library together with numerous commercial sample libraries has helped Paul to create his own "signature sound" in sampled orchestral music.
"We invest a lot of time and money to free our imagination from the restrictions of the technology. It´s a great tool but I'd like to think the sound is not what ultmately counts the most in my music!"
Paul's clients and collaborators today include top-notch game -and film production studios such as Allegiance Films, Erwin Films, Wolfire Software and San Pedro International Ltd.
In late 2004 Paul graduated from high school and has been working as a full-time musician since then, composing music for a number of projects which range from commercials to video games, production music and motion pictures.
