Advertising in Podcasts, Let’s call them Podverts

by Lee Pritchard on June 5, 2009

in Podcasting / videocasting, voice-over

PodcastingHaving produced many audio adverts and having also been involved in the recording and production of podcasts, I feel that the two can easily be combined to maximise a return on investment.

There are many ways of making this work; however, I feel that there are two main aspects for consideration.

  1. The advert or sponsors message
  2. The call to action

The location, type and style of your advertising can be anything from a spoken voice-over message or a fully produced radio style advert at the end or in the body of the podcast. For me, the call to action is the most important aspect, without this you do not have anything to measure and you can’t monitor your return on investment (ROI).

Your call to action can be anything as long as it is trackable. For example: -

  • Register and use code ___ for your free gift
  • Go to www.mydomain.com/offer1
  • Call us on _______ and mention ___ to get a free gift

You get the idea.

Anyway feel free to add, comment and discuss your ideas.

For your entertainment only, here is an advert we worked on recently, primarily aimed at radio but could easily be adapted for podcast use.

Also, if you don’t want the expense of using a professional audio editing service, you could always download the free audio software ‘Audacity‘ and have a play yourself. Suitable royalty free music and voice-overs can be sourced individually.
